The short version
ThePocketDress.com is a search engine for dresses with real pockets. We don't require an account, we don't sell data, and we don't embed third-party advertising trackers. We do log anonymous events (page views, searches, outbound clicks) so we can improve the product, and we store your email address only if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter. Details below.
Who we are
ThePocketDress.com is operated independently by a solo founder. The data controller for this site is reachable at hello@thepocketdress.com.
What we collect on every visit
When you load a page, run a search, or click an outbound link, we record an event with the following details:
- Your IP address with the final segment removed (an IPv4 address like
1.2.3.4is stored as1.2.3.0; IPv6 addresses are similarly truncated). This identifies your approximate network but not your specific device. - Approximate location derived from your IP by our hosting provider: country, region, city, an approximate latitude/longitude, and timezone. We do not use GPS or any device-level location signal.
- Your user-agent string (browser and operating system) and a derived device class (mobile, tablet, desktop).
- The page you're on, the URL you came from (referrer), and any
utm_*campaign parameters present in the URL. - A randomly generated session identifier stored in a cookie (see Cookies, below) so we can tell whether two events on the site came from the same browsing session.
On search events we additionally store the search query text, the filters you applied, and the number of results returned. On outbound click events we additionally store which product you clicked, which retailer it pointed to, and the resolved affiliate URL.
We do not collect names, account passwords, billing information, precise GPS location, or cross-site advertising identifiers.
Newsletter
If you submit your email through a subscribe form, we store your email address and a short label identifying which form you used. We use it to send newsletter content from ThePocketDress.com and for nothing else. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed.
Cookies
We set one first-party cookie on the public site, pd_sid: a randomly generated session identifier with a 30-day lifetime, marked HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax. It contains no personal information by itself; we use it to link multiple events from the same session for analytics. We do not set third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third parties that process data on our behalf
- Vercel hosts the site and sees standard server request data (IP, user-agent, URL) for every request as part of normal hosting operations.
- Vercel Web Analytics is enabled on the site and records aggregate traffic metrics. Per Vercel, it does not set cross-site cookies and does not build cross-site visitor profiles.
- MongoDB Atlas stores our product catalog and the event records described above.
When you click an outbound link to a retailer (Amazon or another store), you leave our site. What that retailer does with cookies and analytics on their side is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. We may earn a commission on purchases made through these links.
How long we keep data
Event records (page views, searches, outbound clicks) are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are automatically deleted. Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs held by Vercel are subject to Vercel's own retention policy.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to ask what we have on file, ask us to delete it, or object to our processing it. Because event records are stored against a truncated IP and a session cookie rather than your name, locating “your” records typically requires you to share the value of your pd_sid cookie or a recent timestamp and approximate IP. Email us at hello@thepocketdress.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
ThePocketDress.com is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this page when our data practices change and update the “Last updated” date at the top.
