Why this site exists

Finding a dress with real pockets shouldn't require a customer-service email, a fitting-room inspection, or a 14-day return. And yet that's the standard experience. Most retailers either bury pocket information at the bottom of a product description, claim “pockets!” for decorative slits that won't hold a tube of lip balm, or skip the detail entirely.

The result is a category of clothing where the most useful design feature is the hardest one to shop for. We built ThePocketDress to fix that — to take pocket claims seriously, treat them as a verifiable spec, and let you filter, sort, and compare by something that actually matters in how you carry your day.

How we rate pockets

Every dress on the site is rated on a four-tier Pocket Confidence Scale, from Pocket Mentioned (the retailer says pockets exist) to Phone-Fit Verified (we have explicit evidence the pocket holds a modern smartphone without bulge). In between sit Pocket Likely (visible in photos, plausibly functional) and Pocket Verified (functional confirmed by reviewers or our own checks).

Every rating is backed by evidence we show on the product page — a retailer description, a customer review quote, an editorial inspection note, or a measurement. We don't assign higher tiers without evidence to support them, and we don't hide the evidence behind a paywall or a sign-up. Our full methodology lives on the Pocket Confidence page.

How we make money

We don't sell dresses ourselves. When you find one you like, we link out to the retailer that does, and on some purchases we earn a small affiliate commission. That revenue is what keeps the lights on, pays for hosting, and funds the time we spend evaluating pockets instead of being a side project that quietly dies.

Commission rates do not influence pocket ratings, search ranking, or which dresses make it into our occasion edits. A retailer paying a higher commission gets no preferential placement. The full breakdown is on our affiliate disclosure page.

What we're not

We're not a fashion blog. We're not a marketplace. We won't pretend a dress has good pockets to earn a commission, and we won't bury a great pocket on a dress just because the retailer doesn't pay us.

Who's behind this

ThePocketDress is run by a small editorial team that reads pocket dimensions for fun and gets irritated by sewn-shut decorative slits. We work independently of any retailer, brand, or affiliate network we link to. We update the index regularly as new pocket-friendly dresses enter our retailer feeds, and we're slowly working through the long tail of older listings to bring everything up to the same standard.
